Once a small village hidden behind Mount Cameron and Mount Nicholson, Wong Chuk Hang has now become a booming creative and culture hub in the Southside.
The name Wong Chuk Hang means ‘Yellow Bamboo Grove’, which came from its yellow bamboo in the 19th century. After World War II, the area became an industrial district with more than 1190 operating factories by the late 1980s.
As the South Island MTR Line opened in 2016, this formerly secluded industrial district is now only 6 minutes from Admiralty and 15 minutes from the Central, the heart of Hong Kong Island.
With its convenient transport links, expansive views of Hong Kong’s Country Parks and beaches as well as large space available with expansive floor plates and high ceilings, Wong Chuk Hang has attracted many businesses, expats and newcomers to the area. One of Hong Kong’s largest gallery spaces, Blindspot Gallery focuses on contemporary photography and image-based works since its opening in 2010. The gallery represents prominent and aspiring local artists and around the region too.

Sin Sin Man is not only a well-known curator of Indonesian arts but also an artist and designer in her own right. Her studio in Wong Chuk Hang focuses on textile art, painting and clothing design. More than a workspace, Sin Sin Atelier has a cozy outdoor area and a delightful mixture of Indonesian and Chinese furniture. The gallery is open to public for talks and art events.

Bulle d’Art is founded as an artistic community space where both kids and adults are welcome to express their creativity through a variety of workshops in calligraphy, embroidery, sculpture, knitting and traditional and Western painting.

First membership-based pottery studio in Hong Kong since 2017, Lump Studio welcomes ceramics makers with all degrees of experience from expert to amateur. The studio also offers ceramics classes for interested individuals to take a step back from the daily hustle.

The Arts Space Scheme was established by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council to provide local and emerging artists access to studios at a below-market rate. There are two open days every year for the public audience to curate talks, exhibitions and performances.

Studio 9 was founded in 2016 as a community space where arts and commerce meet. Besides housing creative artworks, the gallery is also a place for creatives and intellectuals to engage in various interactive activities from seminars, live music events and talks.

Opened in Hong Kong in 2010, de Sarthe Gallery features a diverse spectrum of international artists and aspiring talents. Its impressive 9,820 sq ft art space has presented a number of innovative exhibitions.

Established around a decade ago, this Hong Kong gallery features both Western and Chinese contemporary and modern art. Visitors are invited to a treat with its diverse genres of arts, from Buddhist sculptures to cartoon paintings.
