Top Art Galleries in Wong Chuk Hang

Get arty with Art Basel this week and find your inspiration in Hong Kong’s captivating creative district, Wong Chuk Hang.

Here are our top 9 favourite art galleries hidden away in the rustic neighbourhood.

Once a small village hidden behind Mount Cameron and Mount Nicholson, Wong Chuk Hang has now become a booming creative and culture hub in the Southside.

The name Wong Chuk Hang means ‘Yellow Bamboo Grove’, which came from its yellow bamboo in the 19th century. After World War II, the area became an industrial district with more than 1190 operating factories by the late 1980s.

As the South Island MTR Line opened in 2016, this formerly secluded industrial district is now only 6 minutes from Admiralty and 15 minutes from the Central, the heart of Hong Kong Island.

With its convenient transport links, expansive views of Hong Kong’s Country Parks and beaches as well as large space available with expansive floor plates and high ceilings, Wong Chuk Hang has attracted many businesses, expats and newcomers to the area. Underneath its rustic industrial facade is a bustling network of modern cafes and restaurants, fashion centers and innovative art spaces brimming with creativity.
