The new development by Amazon called as Amazon Go is the latest example of this and it is like a miracle for plenty of customers.
The Amazon’s new development Amazon Go is a brick-and-mortar store placed in Seattle, Washington. As it is a physical store, you can buy anything you want by visiting the store rather than buying from Amazon.com. The most interesting thing to know about this physical store is that there are no registers available in this store. You just need to visit the store, walk through it and pick whatever you are looking for, and then simply walk out from there. Amazon is calling it a “Just Walk Out” to give people a different shopping experience. Here are some important points you should know about Amazon Go.
What is Amazon Go?
According to Amazon, Amazon Go is “a new kind of store with no checkout required”. It means that now you do not need to wait in queue for shopping. This new store works with the Amazon Go app. With the help of this app, you can visit the store directly, choose the items and products that you want and then go. Amazon Go’s first store is a grocery store with a retail space of approx 1,800 square feet.
In a conference, Amazon released that they were working on this project from the last four years. The idea behind this new event is to “push the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning to create a store where customers could simply take what they want and go”. The technology used by ‘Amazon Go’ is same as a self-driving car including sensor fusion, deep learning, and computer vision.
Whenever a product is picked or returned to their place, this technology will observe that process and add all the details to your virtual cart. After shopping when you come out from the store, Amazon will deduct the exact amount from your Amazon account as per your goods, and then send a receipt of that to you.
What can you buy at Amazon Go?
During a press conference, Amazon announced what they are going to sell in their first store of Amazon Go. They told that “We offer delicious ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options made fresh every day by our on-site chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. Our selection of grocery essentials ranges from staples like bread and milk to artisan cheeses and locally made chocolates. You’ll find well-known brands we love, plus special finds we’re excited to introduce to customers. For a quick home-cooked dinner, pick up one of our chef-designed Amazon Meal Kits, with all the ingredients you need to make a meal for two in about 30 minutes”.
How does it work?
To experience new Amazon Go event, you need a smartphone that supports your Amazon account and a free app of Amazon Go. For more information, you can watch their newly launched video. In this video, customers first open the app of Amazon Go on their smartphones, hold it to a scanning device that works as a subway and then enter the store. Then they visit the store, observe items, and purchase the items that they want and then leave the store. Then they look their phone to see their receipt.
From there, you can see the Amazon Go app. It has four buttons such as “Key”, “About”, “Receipt”, & “More”. It describes what items the person has shopped from a store with the purchase prices. It is all possible with the help of technology of that app and cameras present in that store. Currently, this Amazon Go store is available to the Amazon Employees only and they are going to make it a public store in 2017.
